I was born in Centralia, Washington. My family lived in the town of Galvin. I have many fond memories of those years. TV was a fancy gadget that a few rich folks had in their homes. We were one of the lucky families that had a telephone. There were only eight others sharing the line. I entertained myself with activities like hunting, fishing, gardening, and on very rare occasions a ride on my Aunt Jean's horse, Lady.

My dad worked for the Union Pacific RR. He was promoted to a foreman when I was about eight. This new job caused our family to go into what I call the gypsy stage of my life. We traveled all over Washington and Oregon to the different sites that my dad would have to work. When he obtained a permanent position in Aberdeen, Washington, my parents bought a home in Cosmopolis. My mother continues to reside there.

I have always looked at the years spent in getting my degrees from college as a double education. I obtained an AA degree from Grays Harbor College and a BA degree from Central Washington College. I received a degree in "life" from the jobs I worked while getting those degrees. I spent time as warehouseman for a produce company, and a shingle packer. I also worked in the forestry and woods division for Weyerhaeuser Co.

In 1974 I accepted a position as a deputy sheriff for Grays Harbor Co. This was a temporary job until I could locate a teaching position. Eighteen years later I retired to accept a teaching position with the Elma School District as a special education teacher at the middle school level.

Horses became a part of my life when I married Dorothy. There has not been a time during our marriage that horses have not been a part of our lives. During the past 35 years we have explored many different facets of the horse industry. Each adventure added to our knowledge base as well as to the list of people called friends.

Our current adventure involving miniature horses has lasted 10 years and it does not appear that it will be ending anytime in the near future. The future looks bright as more and more driving opportunities are being developed for the miniature horse out side the breed ring.
